Amari Phuket review: a sea-view retreat at Patong’s edge

The bay views and dining make a strong case; the precise room category and swimming expectations deserve equal attention.

The coast is more than a backdrop

Dinner above the water, breakfast beside the bay and a room looking towards the sea give Amari Phuket a different rhythm from a hotel in the middle of Patong’s streets. Its coastal setting is the main attraction, with enough dining and pool space to make staying in a deliberate choice. Patong remains part of the holiday, but the resort gives guests a reason to return before the evening is over.

The hotel separates its accommodation into an Ocean Front Wing and an Ocean Suites Wing. That distinction is more useful than treating every ocean-related room name as equivalent. A balcony beside the coast, a separate living room and access to a particular lounge are different benefits. The strongest booking is the one that identifies which of those features will actually be used, rather than assuming the same package runs throughout the resort.

A room with a balcony or a suite with living space

The official Superior Ocean Front Balcony specification gives 33 square metres, king or twin beds, an ocean view and a balcony. The bathroom has a shower, while a work space and tea and coffee facilities cover the practical basics. It is a conventional bedroom arrangement with outdoor sitting space, rather than a suite with a separate room for relaxing. That makes the balcony an important part of its appeal.

The One Bedroom Suite Ocean View Coral Lounge changes the layout. Its published 39–44 square metres include a separate living and dining area and a kitchenette, with a king bedroom and ocean outlook. The useful distinction is not simply a few additional square metres: someone can sit, eat or spend time outside the sleeping area. For a longer stay or shared downtime, that separation can matter more than an especially photogenic balcony.

The suite’s official page also specifies Coral Lounge breakfast, snacks and beverages, with evening cocktail-bar charges separately noted. Those details belong to the named accommodation and its conditions. Amari’s general facilities information likewise makes some lounge and pool access dependent on room type. A headline list of three pools should therefore not be interpreted as identical access for every reservation; the Club Pakarang pool is described for Club-category guests.

Dining gives the setting a purpose

La Gritta offers Italian food in the Ocean Front Wing, with a separate bar looking across Patong Bay. Rim Talay serves Thai and international dishes and sea-view breakfasts, while its pool bar handles lighter food and drinks. The variety gives an on-site evening a choice of style rather than making every meal another visit to the same buffet. The location of the venues also keeps the water central to the stay.

The TreePods are the most unusual option: elevated, boat-shaped dining spaces among mature trees on the nature-trail path behind the spa. The hotel lists afternoon tea and set menus there. Their appeal is a more enclosed dining setting within the landscape, quite different from a restaurant terrace. Breeze Spa and the children’s club add further reasons to spend a day within the resort, depending on the party’s interests.

The guest accounts put the photographs in perspective

Trip.com reviews of September 2026 stays do not tell a single story about the rooms. A Deluxe Ocean Front Balcony guest praised cleanliness and comfort. A different couple in Superior Ocean Front Balcony found its ground-floor room small, low-ceilinged and worn. The latter is one specific account, not a description of the entire wing, but it shows why room position and category deserve attention alongside the advertised ocean outlook.

Two other September guests were less enthusiastic about the shoreline, with one describing rock rather than a good swimming beach. Those are guest assessments, not a permanent statement about sea conditions. They favour reading Amari primarily as a coastal resort with pools, views and dining, rather than choosing it solely for easy sandy-shore swimming. For travellers who value that combination, and select the right accommodation, its setting gives the stay a clear identity.

A few useful answers

Can every guest use all three pools?

Not on the same basis. The hotel lists two Ocean Front Wing pools and describes Club Pakarang’s pool for Club-category guests; verify the access included in your exact room.

Is the Coral Lounge evening cocktail bar included?

The named suite’s official page lists additional charges for the evening cocktail bar. Check your specific rate benefits rather than assuming all lounge drinks are included.
