Sugar Marina Hotel FASHION review: a Kata base with useful room choices

Four room categories share the same published area; the differences are pool position and furnishings, while families have larger layouts.

FASHION is a specific Sugar Marina property

Sugar Marina Hotel – FASHION – Kata Beach is at 20/10 Kata Road, with a pool, gym and KIRI restaurant downstairs. The hotel places Kata Beach 220 meters away, making this a town-based beach stay rather than accommodation directly on the sand. Its room range is useful for couples and families, though guest accounts show that individual room condition can vary.

The current Hotel–FASHION name matters because Sugar Marina also operates NAUTICAL, SURF and other properties in the Kata area. Details about those hotels should not be folded into this one simply because the brand and beach name match. FASHION’s own location, restaurant and room choices form the relevant combination here.

The official homepage describes bold chairs, monochrome art and tartan details as part of the fashion theme. The appeal is an interior with a recognizable visual character near the beach and surrounding businesses. That is a different reason to choose a hotel from seeking a large landscaped resort where the grounds themselves occupy much of the day.

The same size does not mean the same position

The official room page lists Deluxe, Chic Deluxe, Deluxe Pool View and Deluxe Pool Access at 34 square meters each, with king or twin beds and a private balcony. A move among these categories is therefore not automatically a move to a larger room. It changes furnishings, outlook or the relationship with the pool.

Deluxe emphasizes a chaise longue and soaking tub; Pool View lists a daybed and outlook over the pool toward mountains. Pool Access places the water immediately outside the room area. Chic Deluxe emphasizes its lounge area and fashion interiors. These descriptions belong to named categories, so a bathtub or immediate water access should not be inferred from the word Deluxe alone.

Family Room is listed at 45 square meters with a double bed and bunk bed. The 60-square-meter Family Two Bed Room instead has a king bed and two twins in two bedrooms, with one bathroom. That is a meaningful privacy and sleeping-layout distinction for a family sharing accommodation.

The pool is paired with practical shared space

The facilities page describes the swimming pool and loungers, a gym, lobby lounge and co-working space. These give the hotel more uses between beach outings than just returning to the bedroom. A couple using the pool and a traveler needing somewhere to work may value different parts of the same relatively compact facility list.

Pinewood is mentioned as a nearby spa rather than an in-house hotel spa. That distinction matters for anyone imagining treatments without leaving the property. The hotel’s description connects guests with a service close by; it does not make the spa another room inside FASHION.

An August 2026 Deluxe guest on Trip.com praised the spacious room, comfortable bed and swimming pool. A September Deluxe family guest also liked the pool and location. These are actual guest experiences supporting the shared pool’s role in a beach-based stay, without establishing identical conditions in every room.

Breakfast downstairs, neighborhood activity outside

The official dining page lists a Thai and international breakfast buffet, in-room dining and KIRI’s mix of Thai bowls, seafood and pizza. KIRI is downstairs, so an on-site lunch or dinner is part of the published setup rather than an assumed service at another Sugar Marina property.

That arrangement offers flexibility: guests can eat at the hotel between outings or use the nearby Kata businesses that help define the location. The buffet and restaurant are separate propositions, and the presence of one does not establish that every room rate includes the other.

Room feedback is more mixed than the location praise. An August 2026 Chic Deluxe couple on Trip.com liked being close to Kata’s active area but reported cockroaches in their room. Another August Deluxe guest described a clean, comfortable stay. The complaint deserves its proper scope as one room experience, while the positive account is not proof that maintenance never varies.

FASHION’s strongest fit is a traveler wanting a visually distinctive Kata base, a shared pool and a room layout that matches the group. The family choices offer real differences, and pool access is a separate feature from extra space. The short beach walk is an advantage, with room condition carrying more weight than the theme alone.

A few useful answers

Are Pool Access rooms larger than Deluxe?

Both are listed at 34 square meters. Pool Access changes the connection to the pool, rather than the published room area.

Is Pinewood an in-house spa?

No. The official facilities page describes Pinewood as near the hotel, not inside it.
