Bhu Nga Thani review: roomy accommodation on Railay East

Balconies, sunken baths and a pool looking towards the bay give this Railay East resort its particular appeal.

A balcony and room to spread out

A daybed on the balcony is a good clue to the kind of stay Bhu Nga Thani is offering. Its rooms leave space for time indoors and outside, while the seafront swimming pool provides another place to pause between Railay outings. The current official name is Bhu Nga Thani Resort & Villas Railay. Its strongest appeal is the combination of generous accommodation and an east-side setting among mangroves and limestone cliffs.

The address matters. This is Railay East, and the hotel explicitly says that guests must arrive by boat because Railay cannot be reached by land. It offers boat and van transfer arrangements, with the location page describing airport pickups at a surcharge. The sensible picture is a waterside base connected to Railay’s paths and other beaches, rather than a hotel where a car can drop passengers directly beside the lobby.

The standard room has useful substance

The official Deluxe Room specification starts at 47 square metres in a three-storey building. It offers a private balcony, king or twin beds, and a bathroom with a bathtub, separate rain shower, vanity and dressing area. A window daybed can become an extra bed, while connecting rooms depend on availability. These are meaningful details for families and friends comparing space, rather than simply choosing a room by its decorative style.

There is a particular relationship between bedroom and bathroom: the bathtub has a window overlooking the room. That may appeal to a couple enjoying a slower stay, but the arrangement is worth understanding for guests sharing with friends or older children. A generous floor area alone does not settle every question about privacy. The room’s layout deserves as much attention as whether the bed is a king or twins.

Deluxe Elegant increases the published size to 58 square metres and adds an oversized sunken bathtub and a spacious balcony with a daybed. The hotel describes a colonial-style building and king or twin choices, with connecting rooms again subject to availability. Its appeal is extra room for lounging and bathing. A Pool Villa is separately offered, so a large bath or an elegant room name should not be confused with a private pool.

The pool takes over from the beach

The official facilities page describes an infinity-edge swimming pool with sea and mountain views, waterfalls and a swim-up bar. There is also a fitness centre looking towards the tropical garden. Together with the restaurant, these give the property a complete on-site routine for days when the plan is simply to return from a walk, swim and eat without immediately heading out again.

The pool is an especially relevant feature on an east-side stay. It supplies a clear place for swimming within the hotel, while excursions to Railay’s sandy beaches remain a separate part of the day. The hotel’s published setting includes protected mangroves as well as cliffs; its character comes from that bay-side landscape. It should be chosen for that environment and the accommodation, rather than assuming that every Railay address has the same beachfront experience.

Warm service, with some older qualifications

The individual Tripadvisor accounts available here date from 2024 and 2025. A December 2024 couple praised the large rooms and prompt help with a television problem, while noting thin walls, adjoining-door noise and unreliable room Wi-Fi. A March 2025 guest liked the East Pier position, breakfast and staff but mentioned worn towels, pool decking and the absence of an on-site spa. These are dated observations, not confirmed present conditions.

That history provides a useful balance to the attractive room descriptions. Staff care and room space are persuasive themes, while sound isolation, maintenance and connectivity have mattered to some guests. The current official facilities list does not give a basis to promise a spa treatment programme. Bhu Nga Thani makes most sense for travellers who want balcony space, a substantial bathroom and a pool-centred Railay East base, with their specific room arrangement agreed in advance.

A few useful answers

Can I reach Bhu Nga Thani by road?

No. The hotel confirms that Railay is inaccessible by land and guests must travel by boat. Discuss arrival assistance directly if you have mobility needs.

Does every room have a private pool?

No. Deluxe and Deluxe Elegant are room categories; Pool Villa is separately listed. Reserve a category that explicitly includes a pool if that feature matters.
